This day in history

Since today is indeed a historic day (the start of the Olympic Games for anyone that's been living under an elephant-sized slab of limestone) I will commemorate other notable events of mankind.

1960: "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini" hits #1. For some reason this was on almost every list I looked at today. My question is - who cares? But since it was so ubiquitious to this day, I had to include it.

1961: The Edge (U2) was born. Just watched Rattle and Hum on VH1 Classic last night. I remember commenting to my roommate that I thought the Edge was a hot old man. We concurred that his beanie phase (circa 2003) was his best look.

1969: The cover photo is taken for the Beatles' "Abbey Road'' LP. And the Beatles set themselves up for the most overused parodied image ever.

1976: Chic White Sox suit up in shorts. Indeed, for the daring gentleman, shorts are the new Dockers.

2008: John Edwards admits he had an affair reports ABC. Score one for National Enquirer.
